đŸ¶ Boost Day: The Lazy Dog Mom Way to Go All Out (Again)

đŸ¶ Boost Day: The Lazy Dog Mom Way to Go All Out (Again)

Let’s be real—my dogs don’t exactly suffer through “just the basics.”

Even their regular meals are fully loaded: muscle meat, bone, organs, goat milk, fruits, veggies, and the occasional superfood surprise. The only time they get something plain is when I toss them a whole chicken leg to gnaw on. And even then, they look at me like, “That’s it?”

But twice a week, we take things to a whole new level. I call it Boost Day.

This is when I add specific, high-impact ingredients that support gut health, calcium absorption, inflammation control, joint strength, and—you know—overall dog greatness.

It’s not a detox. It’s not a gimmick. It’s just good food, made even better.

đŸ„› Yogurt + Goat Milk Mix

Why it matters:

  • Packed with probiotics to support gut health

  • Offers easily digestible calcium and B vitamins

  • Gentle on tummies—especially helpful for dogs on raw or recovering from upset stomachs

  • The goat milk? Liquid gold—loaded with enzymes, electrolytes, and fatty acids

How I use it:
I mix ⅓ full-fat plain Greek yogurt (unsweetened, unflavored—always check for xylitol) with ⅔ raw goat milk. The result is a smooth, pourable mix that’s easy on digestion but still loaded with gut-boosting benefits.
I spoon it over meals twice a week on Boost Days, but smaller daily amounts are great for puppies, seniors, or sensitive tummies.

🐟 Sardines

Why it matters:

  • Rich in omega-3s (anti-inflammatory, supports skin, coat, joints, and heart)

  • Natural source of calcium (yes, from the tiny soft bones)

  • Also provides vitamin D and selenium, which support the immune system

How I use it:
Whole, canned in water, no salt added. Depending on the dog’s size, I give anywhere from half a sardine to two per meal. If you’ve never tried sardines for your dog, prepare to become very popular.

🌿 Turmeric Dot

Why it matters:

  • Potent anti-inflammatory (great for joints and chronic issues)

  • Helps support the liver and detox pathways

  • Antioxidant-rich and has natural antibacterial properties

How I use it:
I use a turmeric paste/dot I prep in batches—turmeric, black pepper (to boost absorption), and a fat source like coconut oil. My dogs get a small amount every day, not just on Boost Days. It’s one of the most consistent things in their routine.

🍖 Bone Broth “Bones”

Why it matters:

  • Packed with collagen, glucosamine, and trace minerals

  • Supports joint health, hydration, and digestive function

  • Great for teething puppies, picky eaters, or just as a hydrating treat

How I use it:
This one’s simple but genius—I pour homemade bone broth into silicone bone molds and freeze them. That’s it. No raw meaty bone, no prep mess, just frozen gold.
I serve them straight from the freezer like little doggy popsicles. Some of my dogs crunch through them like champs. Others carry them around like treasure. Either way: enrichment + nutrition = win.

Not Feeding Raw? This Still Works.

Start slow. If it’s your dog’s first time getting fresh food toppers, introduce one ingredient at a time and watch for any sensitivities or reactions. Every dog is different, and their gut might need time to adjust—especially when moving from processed kibble to nutrient-dense whole foods.

But even if you’re not feeding raw (yet 😉), these Boost Day additions can seriously upgrade your dog’s current meals.

Things like goat milk, full-fat Greek yogurt, sardines, turmeric, and bone broth can:

  • Improve digestion and nutrient absorption

  • Support joint health and mobility

  • Strengthen the immune system

  • Turn a boring bowl of kibble into something your dog actually looks forward to

It’s not about being perfect. It’s about doing a little better—one bowl at a time.
Start where you are. Upgrade what you can. Your dog doesn’t need perfection—they just need you to care a little extra.

And hey, if they start ignoring the kibble and diving nose-first into the good stuff?
That’s not a problem. That’s a wake-up call. 😉

🩮 Lazy Dog Mom Tip

Not all turmeric is created equal.
If you’re not pairing it with a healthy fat and a pinch of black pepper, your dog’s not getting the benefits—it just passes right through.

No fat? No pepper? Skip it for now.
Your dog deserves more than just yellow powder for decoration.
